Register existing regular customers as wholesale customers by importing them from another store.
There are two main steps for registering a wholesale customer by importing from another website. You can follow the steps below:
Step #1: Importing customers to website?
There are two cases for importing customers, depending on where you obtain their data. We have outlined the two cases below:
- Case #1: Importing customers from non-Shopify website
- Case #2: Importing customers from old Shopify website
Case #1: Importing customers from non-Shopify website
In this case, you need to export customer data from a non-Shopify website and format it into Shopify’s supported customer CSV format. Then, import this CSV file into the new store.
Case #2: Importing customers from old Shopify website
In this case, you need to export customer data from another Shopify website. Then, import this CSV file into the new store.

Step #2: How to activate imported customers?
There are two scenarios, depending on which Shopify login method you are using. We have outlined the two scenarios below:
Customer accounts (One-time login code)
If you’re using Shopify’s new one-time code login method, Click Here to view the reference image. With this login method, the ‘Send account invite’ option will not appear because Shopify automatically treats all customers as active, eliminating the need to send invites and no need to activate the imported customers in this scenario.
Legacy (Email and password)
If you're using Shopify's "Legacy" login method, Click Here to view the reference image, please follow the instructions below: Once you have imported customers into your website, they will not have a password because Shopify does not import passwords. As a result, you will see the account status listed as empty, as highlighted in the screenshot. These imported customers will not be able to log in unless they set a new password. You must send an “Account Invite” to each imported customer individually so they can set a password for their account. Please follow the steps below to send an invite to each customer.
