There are two main steps for registering a wholesale customer by importing from another website. You can follow the steps below:
Step #1: Importing customers to website?
There are two cases for importing customers, depending on where you obtain their data. We have outlined the two cases below:
- Case #1: Importing customers from non-Shopify website
- Case #2: Importing customers from old Shopify website
Case #1: Importing customers from non-Shopify website
In this case, you need to export customer data from a non-Shopify website and format it into Shopify’s supported customer CSV format. Then, import this CSV file into the new store.
Case #2: Importing customers from old Shopify website
In this case, you need to export customer data from another Shopify website. Then, import this CSV file into the new store.

Step #2: How to activate imported customers?
Once you have imported customers into your website, they will not have a password because Shopify does not import passwords. As a result, you will see the account status listed as empty, as highlighted in the screenshot. These imported customers will not be able to log in unless they set a new password. You must send an “Account Invite” to each imported customer individually so they can set a password for their account. Please follow the steps below to send an invite to each customer.
