Prevent Shopify automatic discounts for wholesale orders – Wholesale All In One Help Center

Applies to the Standard Checkout discount method.

What this setting does

Your store can have two kinds of discounts on the same order:

Wholesale prices from Wholesale All In One.
Automatic discounts you created in Shopify (Discounts in your Shopify admin), for example “10% off everything” or “Buy 2, get 1 free”.

When Prevent Shopify automatic discounts for wholesale orders is on, these two don’t add up. A wholesale customer gets the wholesale price or the automatic discount, never both.

When it is off, Shopify can apply both, as long as your automatic discount is set to combine with product discounts.

Why a customer can sometimes lose the wholesale price

On Standard Checkout, Shopify, not the app, picks the discount when two discounts can’t combine. Shopify always keeps the one that saves the customer more on the whole order.

Example: one wholesale order, setting on

Wholesale price	$20 off	Dropped
“15% off everything” automatic discount	$30 off	Applied

The automatic discount saves more, so Shopify applies it and the wholesale price is dropped.

This is how Shopify checkout works, and no app can change it. The fix is to make sure your automatic discounts don’t apply to wholesale customers at all.

How to fix it: keep automatic discounts away from wholesale customers

You do this with a customer segment, a saved group of customers in Shopify.

Step 1: Create a segment of non-wholesale customers

In your Shopify admin, go to Customers and then Segments.
Click Create segment.
Enter this filter, replacing wholesale with the tag your wholesale customers have:
```
customer_tags NOT CONTAINS 'wholesale'
```
If your wholesale customers have more than one tag, add one line for each tag, joined with AND:
```
customer_tags NOT CONTAINS 'wholesale' AND customer_tags NOT CONTAINS 'vip'
```
Name the segment, for example Retail customers, and save it.

Step 2: Limit each automatic discount to that segment

Go to Discounts and open your automatic discount.
In the Eligibility section, choose Customer segments.
The Eligibility options on a Shopify automatic discount.
Select the Retail customers segment and click Save.
Repeat for each automatic discount that wholesale customers shouldn’t get.

Now wholesale customers always see their wholesale prices, and your other customers still get your automatic discounts.

Good to know

Customers who aren’t logged in

A discount limited to a customer segment only applies to customers Shopify can identify, which means they’re logged in or recognised at checkout. Guests who check out without an account won’t get a segment-limited automatic discount. If that matters for your store, keep a separate automatic discount for everyone and accept that it may replace wholesale prices on some orders, or ask wholesale customers to always log in.

Codes typed at checkout are controlled separately, in Settings then Coupon code field in Wholesale All In One.

Draft Order API method

There the setting works differently: when it’s on, no Shopify automatic discount applies to wholesale orders, so wholesale prices are always kept. The steps above are only needed on Standard Checkout.
